Privacy summary
Local by default.
CommentReel is designed so the component can work without tracking visitors or calling an outside service.
The component
The CommentReel component makes no network requests, sets no cookies, and includes no analytics. Comment text is supplied by the host website and rendered as text. A visitor leaves the site only when they choose a source link.
The playground
Playground comments, authors, source URLs, colors, and settings remain in the current browser page. They are not saved to an account, written to local storage, or sent to a server.
Theme preference
The site stores one local browser preference named commentreel-theme so light or dark mode can remain consistent. It contains only the selected theme value.
Beta applications
When applications are open, the form collects name, email, role or organization, project website, project goal, and timeframe. Those details are used only to evaluate, contact, and support applicants. Cloudflare processes the request, verifies it with Turnstile, and stores it in a D1 database. The application does not store the visitor’s IP address or Turnstile token.
Publication responsibility
Site owners and beta partners remain responsible for permission to publish a comment, preserving its meaning, and linking a source when one is available. CommentReel does not collect or approve comments automatically.
Retention and contact
Declined or inactive applications are deleted within 90 days. We do not use client-side analytics for the initial beta. The Fastmail address privacy@commentreel.com will handle access or deletion requests; the public form remains closed until that mailbox is active and tested.
